Spiti A mountainous cold desert freckled with green patches over a dry weather-beaten face, fascinating valleys, windswept landscapes and quiet villages, Spiti, which is loosely translates as ‘the middle land’. The geographic placement passes a heavy influence of Buddhism and stark cultural similarities of the region into the valley. Spiti is arid and an isolated world offering panoramic views of the barren mountains, clear blue sky, sparsely populated villages and some of the most striking monasteries that dates back to 1000 years from now. Rudyard Kipling has described Spiti “a world with in a world” in his book Kim. This cold mountain desert is an ideal place both for explorers and religiously inclined tourists.
